Good, not great. We went for the early dinner menu. Did not care for the honey butter served with the bread. Did not compliment the savory food. House salad with balsamic: too heavily dressed. Chicken Francese, a bit dry and too salty. Not hugely, but enough that it masked the lemon/garlic flavor that should have been prominent. Penne with marinara: Pasta was nicely al dente but marinara was just average. Portions were small, reflecting less expensive early dinner, but compare unfavorably to other establishments in the area. Service was VERY good. Ambience was lovely. It's just a shame that the food doesn't measure up to the rest of the package.

Great place to go for pizza, drinks or ambiance. They went "bistro" a couple of years ago (décor was getting dated) so while it used to have a lot of pomp and circumstance now it is more casual and "hip". The carpaccio is fantastic and the pizza margarita is authentic.

Well, if you're ever in the Poconos, a must try restaurant is Peppe's Bistro. OH MY! We were thoroughly pleased, surprised & filled with the wonderful offers tonight! Harry couldn't pass up the French Onion soup, which was one of the best he's had in his life, and believe me, he's tried many! I started with a Caesar salad, fresh, crisp and with a delightful house-made Caesar dressing. The hot rolls were served with a herb-infused butter (slight hint of fresh basil, just the right hint). We then ordered veal Florentine, with artichokes, fresh sautéed spinach & garlic and tender veal tenderloins. The two sides were special, as well: capellini with wonderful first press? olive oil and garlic, and then the absolute BEST EVER polenta creamy with fresh local corn cut off the cob, and bits of herbs shredded lightly on top. Mia Dio!

Atmosphere is nice and clean. The staff at the restaurant was A1 and that's the only reason I gave them 3 stars. Very attentive and concerned with our orders. The food lacked everything; from flavor to excitement. I know this restaurant has been around for some time, however they need to keep up with the times. I trust that they will need to change sooner or later...

Food was fairly good but they seemed understaffed the Saturday we came. It took an hour to bring food after we ordered. Getting some bread took a while too and with hungry kids that was annoying. We would not return. TV screens took away from otherwise nice atmosphere.

Food and device are fantastic..go for the early bird special..it's a similar portion of food for a great price with lots of options.the staff is friendly and service is on point. They also have a great wine selection

For years and years (really decades) I had heard good things about this upscale establishment. I was happy with my visit, and I have heard things have changed in 25+ years, but I expected different. I went with my boyfriend. We split what I call a steak tartare. We had to let it defrost, as it was still frozen, when it was served to us. We then split a pizza. A white shrimp California style. With basil. Something close to that. It was good. Even I thought the menu prices were high at this place and I/we go out to somewhat higher end places. That's part of why we decided on pizza. Our drinks were good, but expensive. Now here's my real disappointment with the bar/drinks menu: the specialty drinks they offered were good, but as far as a creative mind like me making my own drink.. their liquor selection was VERY limited for a restaurant of that caliber. Like extremely under stocked. It had virtually no flavored vodkas, rums, no "new" fancier, "younger" or "modern" flavors. I can't recall the exact flavors, but I went thru my mental check list and they were missing some pretty common staples. (I want to say Whipped-like Pinnacle-was a common flavor that was missing, definitely some fruit ones.) Since we went very late, near closing time, we had several people serve us. So I can't particularly comment on the staff like I normally would, but they seemed nice enough.

I'm not the type of person to walk out of restaurants, actually this was my first. I took my fiance out to dinner for our anniversary we had been to Pepe's many years ago and decided to give it another go. We walked in noticed how nice the place looks now and were seated. The immediate problem was whatever party/club/catering they had going on next door was LOUD. Im not sure if this was another room in the restaurant or the building next door, the way the waiter made it sound like it was a party the restaurant was catering. No imagine this you go out for a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant and all you can it sounds like your at a nightclub. Now ive eaten at bars and clubs before but for a nice restaurant is surely was completely rude and distracting. We saw other people getting up and leaving from their tables soon after being seated also. I cant comment on the food or the service itself but just be warned before going here you may be also a customer who is second to whatever party their hosting.

Stopped by here tonight and enjoyed the food. Great staff too. The best was the live entertainment. The band they had performing was "SmoovEdge". They really set the atmosphere off. Great music an food... Who needs to venture into the city when it's all offered right here. I'm glad I stopped bye. Highly recommended!!!

We went there after attending a wonderful event at the Pocono Community Theater. For attending the event we were able to enjoy a private catered dinner for a very modest price. Let me tell you, anyone saying there isn't good Italian food in PA hasn't been here. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch!

We came here after hearing nothing but positive reviews constantly. Came Thursday around 5:30pm, the restaurant is attached to the bowling alley, upon walking in it was clearly a really nice open restaurant. Utensils, plates and wine glasses were set on each table. They have their menu, happy hour menu and early bird menu from 4pm to 6pm. We ordered the fried calamari which was crispy and done just right. The server also gave us bread with a very tasty butter (reminded me of the Texas roadhouse butter!) warm bread and butter MMMM. For dinner hubby got the salmon (broiled/seared) with house rice and veggies. I contemplated between penne a la vodka or brick oven pizza, ended up with penne a la vodka and added spinach to it along with a caeser salad. The salad was ok, dressing was a little over powering. Our main course came and yummy, for an early bird special I had leftovers too. The only downside was we were made aware there would be an extra charge to add spinach, but $4.99 just for spinach to be tossed in with the pasta...is a little bit extreme. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and would be good for families or even a romantic date. Definitely very happy we finally gave it a try.

Have been here twice. Once on a regular dinner reservation and once for a party. I must say that I liked the second visit during the party way better. The first time during dinner I was not a fan of the food. I must say that the restaurant looks great after the renovation. During the party the calamari was great and so was the chicken marsala. Service is very good also.

I was taking an adventure out to the Poconos to do a little decompressing at my friends house and on the way there we stopped at one of their favorite restaurants Peppe's Bistro. Peppe's is located in East Stroudsburg, PA and offers a wide variety of dining pleasures in a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Upon walking in, one of the head waitstaff Tom, met my friends and I with a warm smile and handshake. As they have been there on numerous occasions and its become one of their regular spots to dine while making their way to the Pocono house they are known by the main folks at the establishment. We were offered the chance to sit in the main dining room or the lounge and while my buddy preferred the lounge to keep up with the game that was soon to finish, his wife suggested it might be better for casual conversation in the dining room. I agreed with her. The tables were sizable and comfortable which was nice since no risk of running out of room for food when it got brought to the table. My friends had salad as their appetizers, while I opted for the fried calamari. They had a nice texture to them and instead of the conventional marinara sauce I chose the sweet red chili sauce which was a great tasting choice in my humble opinion. The salads looked nice I will admit. The entrees came out and our orders were as follows, a Classic Marguerite pizza, Chicken Marsala and a Black & Bleu Burger (the last one was mine but we did all share the pizza and it was tasty). I enjoyed my burger with a side of sweet potato fries which my buddy recommended and I like choosing these instead every once in awhile. Of course soon the head waiter advised that as a visitor I might want to try their Fresh Cut Chips and this was a solid suggestions. They essentially take full potatoes and put them on the slicer and fry them up. Excellent. Really glad I got the chance to try them. We didn't do dessert but instead enjoyed some wines and beer (I had the beer, it was Bass Ale). My hope is to return to this place a little earlier in the evening so we can attempt some bowling as well. They have a nice looking alley right next door to the restaurant which is also under their control. Everyone in the place was friendly and easy to strike up light conversation with. If I had one gripe it would be the lack of WiFi for the clientele as we find this more often than not in our dining adventures these days. Should you happen to be in East Stroudsburg, PA area, you will not go wrong by making a pit stop to Peppe's Bistro. I give it two thumbs up.

Had the best experience yesterday at Peppe's! The food was soooo good!! I had the penne al la vodka and my fiancé had brick oven pizza. The server, Kristy was so friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back!

Don't be beguiled by the romanticized name; this is a family restaurant dolled up as a fine dining establishment. (The "early bird special" and kids' menu are dead giveaways.) That being said, we DID have kid in tow and were just looking for an easy meal. The pizza was very good and the ravioli was prepared well. The bread was crusty and warm and the place was spotless--overlooking a strip of gigantic Miracle Gro frankenflowers outside. The caramel apple pie was forgettable. The food was a little slow in arriving but we enjoyed ourselves; a good spot for travel-weary trekkers.

I was visiting the Poconos for the weekend and Peppe's seemed like a great choice for quality food (it looked great from outside). The ambiance was okay. The food was blah. The staff was horrible (minus the manager who was really amazing). Overall Peppe's wasn't horrible but it was barely good. If you're a foody and seeking a great casual dinning experience -- THIS IS NOT IT. EVERYTHING TASTED LIKE CAFETERIA FOOD.

Went there on a Wednesday late afternoon with a party of ten and had nothing but great service. Isaiah the waiter was excellent and very attentive. The appetizers were delicious along with the entre. The restaurant connected with the bowling alley made it a whole new unique experience. Highly recommend it for large groups. Thanks PEPPES!

18 years after our first visit here, this is still the place to be. Even with the drastic esthetic changes to the place, the food is still outstanding. The service is great. We spend each anniversary here. Can't wait to go again.

It was my niece's graduation from ESU & we were taking her to her favorite restaurant to celebrate. I can honestly say that Peppe's Bistro is now one of my favorites too. We were a large crowd & the service was amazing. They satisfied everyone's pickiness without blinking an eye. The food was served quickly & there wasn't anyone at the table who didn't like what they ordered. We had 2 servers & the both of them were so gracious. They knew the menu & what was in the food. The owner came by our table afterwards & I had to compliment her on the wonderful service & food. i told her I was going to write a glowing review on Yelp. I always keep my promises. I am looking forward to going back to visit my niece & eating at Peppe's Bistro again.

Re-named Peppe's Bistro, new Menu, but the great itallian food and specials have remained. Whatever they're serving, it's fantastic. from gourmet pizza and burgers, to delicious itallian specialties. Comfortable bar area and nice dining room. Both are good choices. And as ever Tommy and staff are always #1 when it comes to friendly service,

Now that's what I call good Italian. This place I highly recommend if in the area for Italian food. Now ,when you walk in it may come across abit upscale or expensive but it's not. The atmosphere is decent with 1930's music playing and lighting that fits a romantic couple or a family gathering. With the windows covered (no natural lighting) the food and service was fantastic. John our waiter was very attentive and helpful was some suggestions with a cool sense of humor. Out comes the warm garlic bread and this orangish lox with thin bread sticks in it. OK, what the hell is that I'm thinking. It was called cottage cheese carrot dip and I was impressed at how good it was. Of course the salad comes, good as well. Then the waiter brings two cute glasses with a scoop of sorbet in them. I'm thinking this must be the other table desert but the waiter read my face expression smiling and says's this is to clean your pallete. I started laughing and yes the light bulb went off a little late but at that moment I knew we were in for a delicious dinner. My boyfriend ordered the Seafood Crepes that was stuffed with shrimp, scallops, cheese and mushroom sauce. I had the Pollo alla Fiorentina (Spinach, Mushrooms and cheese sauce on top of linguine). Delicious . So much food I couldn't finish it all but my boyfriend demolished his plate as the waiter said. I really enjoyed the food. You guys had me at the sobet.

Food was average, at best. I ordered the "homemade" (I question whether this was really homemade or not) spinach ravioli, which was close to tasteless and the filling was crumbly and dry. The house salad was good, but I was a little annoyed that they listed blue cheese crumbles as a salad dressing, yet they charge you an extra $1.00 for it. The fried mozzarella in garlic butter was delicious, but it could have used some marinara sauce for dipping. The most disappointing part of the night was when I ordered a "cappuccino." First of all, it was missing the two key ingredients: espresso and foam. I work at a coffee shop so I know what a cappuccino is supposed to taste like. This was just coffee, milk, and cinnamon microwaved until it was scorching hot. I took one tiny sip and it burned my entire mouth. It hardly resembled coffee, let alone a cappuccino. The lemon sorbet that they give you to cleanse your palate is definitely the best part about that place! I could have eaten a whole bowl of that stuff. Overpriced, no free refills on soda, menu lacked variety, and they leave their desserts uncovered on a tray against the wall in the dining room.. wouldn't go back again!!

I am not sure if Me and the person who reviewed prior to me went to the same restaurant, but this place was TERRIBLE. The lasagna did not even taste like lasagna, My husband ate 2 bites and refused to touch it after that. My Penne Vodka left much to be desired. The place is dark, but not dark romantic, dark dingy. They also leave the dessert cakes out in the open with people constantly walking by them as they are propped on a table against a wall. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Great food, great atmosphere... The only problems were first, the size of their menu. They bring this huge paper out which is very akward to try to read and putting it down on the table is impossible! Second, portions are too big. Last, The decor is nice exept for the way they roll the napkins and put them in the water glasses so they stick up like candles. Chef Ramsey would have a fit about those 3 things. Otherwise, great food, great friendly service!

Best carpaccio in the area! Shrimp alla peppe is excellent as well - renamed when place was renovated but still awesome. Great entertainment on friday nights in their cozy lounge. One of the best family owned restaurants still in the poconos. The renovation was well thought out and done very well. Would recommend this place to all.

I was in East Stroudsburg, PA for my daughters orientation to ESU. After a long day of meetings and listening to people talk, my wife and I drove around to try and find a place to eat. We stumbled upon Peppes Bistro. The place was very clean. From the moment you walked in they made you feel comfortable. The caesar salad was very good and our meals were excellent. The service was top notch the owner Tom was also there to make sure we had a great experience. I also highly recommend the cannoli for dessert. It was truly one of the best cannoli I ever had. If you are ever in the area make sure you try Peppes Bistro

Very good traditional Italian restaurant. I'm not sure why there were some poor reviews, maybe it's not hip and trendy enough? The food has always been above reproach for me. Staff is professional and helpful. On certain nights they make a Caesar salad tableside for you, it's delicious. Last time I had the veal parm, nice portions with good sauce. Even my wife liked her food and she's a picky pain in the you-know-what. Desserts are great too. It's an old-fashioned Italian-American place where they try to make you feel comfortable, special, and also full. Good place for family gatherings with a reasonable price for what you get IMHO.

Peppe's is located in a small strip mall next to a bowling alley. OK, now that that's out of the way... I was there for dinner with some relatives - they had eaten there before and said it was "good". I kept it simple and ordered spaghetti and meatballs. Good quality meatballs: soft, nicely seasoned, and no funny bits. The pasta was al dente, the sauce was thick and delicious. The blue cheese crumbles on the side salad were good too. There were lots of other menu options and several specials. Lots of desserts on the dessert cart. The staff was very friendly. If you're looking a good Italian place in East Stroudsburg close to town, Peppe's is a good choice.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
